CBP Seizes 75 Fake Chiefs Rings in Houston
U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 75 counterfeit Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rings at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport after a shipment from Guangzhou, China, was mislabeled as metal hair pins. Officers noticed the poor craftsmanship, and the NFL confirmed the rings were fake; CBP said genuine versions would have had a combined suggested retail value of at least $750,000. The agency referred information about the importer to Homeland Security Investigations and said counterfeit sales can harm legitimate businesses and, in some cases, put consumers at risk. The seizure is part of a broader pattern of counterfeit goods intercepted in Houston, with CBP reporting that most of its intellectual-property seizures originate in China and Hong Kong.
