Springfield Man Sentenced to 151 Months for AI Child Porn

Jeremy Koppenhaver, 46, was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison and 25 years of supervised release after a jury convicted him of receiving child sexual abuse material and producing obscene images depicting children. The investigation began in 2024 after a customer at a downtown Springfield coffee shop reported that Koppenhaver was using AI to create such images; a search of his laptop found about 19 images involving real children and roughly 61 AI-generated images. Investigators said he used an image-generation site to portray female celebrities as minors being sexually abused, repeatedly adjusted prompts to evade its safeguards, and used photo-editing software to combine images of himself with pictures depicting nude girls. Prosecutors also presented evidence of searches for child pornography, while the sentencing judge ordered the prison terms to run concurrently.
