State Courts Bring Oral Arguments to Students
West Virginia’s Supreme Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear arguments in three cases at Westside High School on Oct. 20, bringing more than 350 students from Wyoming and McDowell counties into its LAWS civics education program. The event, the program’s first in Wyoming County, is intended to give students firsthand exposure to appellate proceedings and encourage interest in law and public service. Separately, Minnesota Supreme Court justices held arguments at St. Cloud Tech High School on Oct. 14, followed by a student question-and-answer session and school visits. Both efforts bring court proceedings directly to students to help them learn about the judicial process.
