States update deer tags, hunting rules
States are introducing or adjusting hunting-tag systems and seasonal rules ahead of deer seasons. In Washington, thousands of hunters have used the new digital tagging system, though some have run into problems accessing the app in areas without cell service; most licensees still chose paper licenses. Michigan officials are outlining upcoming changes involving digital deer tags, harvest reporting and expanded firearm rules before the Nov. 15 opener. Arizona plans to offer 2,655 over-the-counter archery deer tags to nonresident hunters for 2027, while New York will make leftover permits for antlerless deer available in select areas starting Nov. 1.
