Steube Plans Run for House GOP Conference Chair

Florida Rep. Greg Steube is seeking the House Republican Conference chairmanship, joining Erin Houchin and incumbent Lisa McClain in the contest. After Republicans suffered major midterm losses, Steube called for current party leaders to step aside, accusing them of weak messaging, compromising with moderates and failing to govern on conservative principles. He argued the party needs new leadership and a stronger conservative direction; other coverage reported that he had initially said he was considering a leadership bid.
