String Quartets Perform, Plan Concerts Across Continents
Several chamber-music programs highlight the range of the string quartet tradition. The Delray String Quartet will open its season with Beethoven’s “Harp” Quartet and Caroline Shaw’s “Entr’acte,” which playfully unsettles Classical-era conventions. The Australian String Quartet paired Bartók’s technically demanding String Quartet No. 4 with Garth Knox’s experimental, space-inspired “Satellites.” The Borromeo String Quartet is opening Arizona Friends of Chamber Music’s season with Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 2, drawing on its study of the composer’s original manuscripts to inform its interpretation. Meanwhile, the Natalie L. Haslam College’s residency series brings practicing artists, including the Aspen String Trio, to campus for performances and direct engagement with students.
