Student Events Explore History, Film, Arts
Student-led arts and museum programs are helping young people engage with local and national history. Canberra’s Come Alive festival will feature performances by students and a circus, drawing on National Library and Royal Australian Mint collections to explore figures, events and objects ranging from suffragette Edith Cowan to Australia’s first coinage. In Gulfport, students from about 22 schools will present research on Gulf Coast landmarks, historical figures, restaurants and food traditions at a public museum event, with tours and a scavenger hunt also planned. Northern Michigan University students are gaining hands-on experience through a decade-long partnership with the Fresh Coast Film Festival, whose programming celebrates outdoor life and regional culture.
