Students Cast Mock Ballots Across Communities
Students in Nevada and British Columbia got hands-on lessons in democracy through election tours and mock voting programs. Carson High School students observed early-voting operations with the Carson City clerk-recorder, then held a classroom mock election; educators said seeing the process firsthand can make voting feel more accessible and encourage young people’s civic participation. In Erie County, New York, children cast ballots for real candidates at early-voting sites through a Kids Voting program. Across British Columbia, about 60,000 students took part in Student Vote, learning about local races and organizing parallel elections at school; their results included selecting candidates for municipal and regional offices.
