Students protest gun violence, AI, police oversight

Students in several U.S. communities have staged protests over issues affecting schools and public life. In Oregon and Virginia, students walked out to call attention to gun violence, with the Oregon demonstrations following a deadly shooting at a Bend elementary school and Charlottesville students citing a nearby school shooting. In Madison, students and community groups protested the proposed firing of the interim independent police monitor, calling for stronger police accountability. At New York City’s LaGuardia High School, students protested generative AI use in education, citing concerns about independent learning and creative careers.
