Students stage anti-ICE walkouts across multiple cities

Students in Santa Maria and nearby Lompoc walked out to protest federal immigration enforcement after a Santa Maria student was detained on his way to school. School officials said the student was injured and hospitalized; ICE said he matched the description of a person agents sought and disputed reports that he suffered a broken bone. Students and supporters said the incident has heightened fears that families and community members could be caught up in enforcement actions, while local and federal officials called for scrutiny of the encounter. Anti-ICE demonstrations were also reported at a Rockford high school and in Worcester, where protesters marched to government and court buildings.
