Students walk out, question campus shooting communications
Students at St. John Paul II Catholic School in Grande Prairie walked out to protest a teacher’s alleged online comments denying residential schools and their harms, calling for accountability and greater recognition of the lasting effects of the system. About 150 students took part, and the local Catholic school division had not commented. Separately, Colorado State University students criticized the university’s communication after an officer shot and injured an armed man near Newton Plaza on Oct. 12. Students said campus alerts did not explain the severity of the incident, and some learned details only in a mass email the next day; the university said there was no continuing threat, while it remained unclear whether the man fired his weapon.
