Studies Report Psilocybin Effects in Fish, Patients
Recent reports highlight varied, early-stage investigations into psilocybin, from animal behavior to possible mental-health and neurological applications. In a fish study, a low dose reduced aggressive attacks without eliminating normal social interaction. A small Oregon study found group psilocybin sessions feasible for low-income adults with depression and reported lower depression scores afterward, but without a comparison group it cannot establish that psilocybin caused the improvement. A Brazilian case report described cognitive and communication changes after an older woman with advanced Alzheimer’s received psilocybin, but a single case cannot demonstrate treatment effectiveness. Separately, a physician-led research collaboration is examining biological and cognitive responses to psilocybin; these findings remain exploratory, and none of the reports establishes a proven treatment.
