Sundance Set for Boulder Debut After 45 Years
The Sundance Film Festival will leave Park City after 45 years and open in Boulder, Colorado, on Jan. 21–31, 2027. The move follows years of crowding and rising short-term rental costs in Park City, while relatively few festivalgoers visited the ski slopes; political tensions in Utah also contributed to the strained setting. Boulder is preparing for the event by issuing special lodging licenses that allow residents to rent homes during major festivals, with more than 1,500 properties approved to advertise and additional applications still coming in. Demand for festival lodging is already surging, but local hosts warn that the growing number of rentals could make competition intense and that some newcomers may overestimate how much they can earn.
