Suspect Arrested in Senatobia Police Station Arson
Federal authorities have arrested Huntsville resident Garrick Rawls and charged him with maliciously damaging or attempting to damage a building by fire in connection with an early Saturday blaze at the Senatobia Police Department in Mississippi. An affidavit alleges that surveillance video shows a masked person breaking into the station, pouring an accelerant and setting it alight; the resulting explosion reportedly threw the person into the road. Rawls is being held pending a preliminary and detention hearing, while the investigation involves federal, state and local agencies. The incident comes amid tensions in Senatobia following the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley by a police officer earlier this year and continued calls from family members and activists for accountability.
