Tatis Named Silver Slugger Finalist at Two Positions
Fernando Tatis Jr. was the Padres’ only 2026 Silver Slugger finalist, earning nominations in both the outfield and utility categories after playing right field and making 50 starts at second base. The nominations cap a season in which he recovered from a slow start to hit 25 home runs and post a .828 OPS, with his power and production surging in the second half. Tatis has won the award twice before, both times as a shortstop. For 2027, San Diego has reason to keep second base as an option, but should weigh the available players at both positions and build its lineup around Tatis in right field unless an infield move improves the overall combination.
