Taylor Swift Set for Inaugural VMA Director Honor

Taylor Swift will receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the 2026 Video Music Awards on Sept. 27 in Los Angeles. The new award recognizes artists whose work directing music videos has expanded visual storytelling and established a distinctive creative voice. Swift’s directing credits include “The Man,” “Cardigan,” “Willow,” “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Anti-Hero,” “Bejeweled,” “Fortnight,” “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite”; she has been nominated for Best Director seven times and won four times. The honor also makes Swift the most awarded artist in VMA history, surpassing Beyoncé, according to one report. Swift is additionally nominated for Video of the Year and Artist of the Year, while Madonna is scheduled to open the ceremony with her first VMA performance in 23 years; speculation that Swift could announce new music remains unconfirmed.
