Teachers earn honors, join multistate STEM initiatives
Several initiatives are recognizing and supporting educators for their impact on students and teaching. The Midwest STEM Alliance selected 18 elementary science teachers from Iowa, Kansas and Minnesota, including Lauren Drew of Waukon, for a four-year program offering professional development and classroom resources. Murphy Middle School teacher Jaime Johnson was chosen for a two-year Teach Like a Champion Fellowship, where she will refine her instruction and share strategies with colleagues. Elizabethtown College’s Wendy Martin received the Pennsylvania Science Teachers Association’s 2026 Leadership in Science Education Award for her work with the college’s Science in Motion program. Iowa is accepting nominations for its 2027 STEM Teacher Awards, while a separate monthly program invites students to nominate teachers whose work they admire.
