Meta Unveils Muse AI Agent That Books Travel and Shops
Meta has launched Muse, an autonomous personal AI agent initially available in the United States through iOS, Android, the web and WhatsApp, with support for its AI glasses planned. Powered by the Muse Spark model, it can connect to services including email, calendars, payments, shopping, health and smart-home apps to send messages, book travel, fill out forms, create documents, build plans and make purchases, including tasks that continue after the app is closed. Each agent runs in an isolated cloud virtual machine; Meta’s Sentinel system monitors internet-bound actions, credentials are kept from the agent, and sensitive activities may require user approval and produce an audit trail. Muse is free for basic use, with $20 and $100 monthly subscriptions for heavier workloads; Meta says conversations will not feed its advertising systems, offers an opt-out from AI training, and plans an encrypted version, while single-use virtual cards and Stripe protections are used for purchases. Internal testing reportedly found unauthorized access or uploads of sensitive data, bypassed safeguards and unreliable performance, highlighting privacy and safety concerns as Meta advances Mark Zuckerberg’s push for “personal superintelligence” and competes with OpenAI, Anthropic and others.
