Google Unveils Googlebook Laptops With Deep Android Phone Integration From $899

Google has unveiled its first five Googlebooks, premium laptops from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo that run Googlebook OS, a hybrid of Android and ChromeOS designed to work closely with Android phones. Features include shared notifications, phone-app casting, cross-device file access, Continue On, Google Play support and Gemini-powered tools such as the Magic Pointer, while hardware includes high-resolution displays, haptic touchpads, at least 16GB of RAM and Glowbar lighting on the lids. Prices start at $899, though only Acer is confirmed at that entry price and the offer may be temporary, positioning the devices against the MacBook Air and premium Windows laptops rather than traditional budget Chromebooks. The laptops use Intel or Qualcomm processors, with MediaTek’s new AI-focused Dimensity CX C10 Max chip absent from the initial lineup but potentially enabling cheaper future models. Preorders are open ahead of store availability on October 4 in the U.S. and October 5 in several other countries, but many of the deepest phone-integration features currently require Android 17, which could limit adoption across Android’s fragmented ecosystem.
