Oracle Seeks Force Majeure Protection for $165B New Mexico Data Center
Oracle reportedly sent a force majeure notice to a Blue Owl Capital development unit concerning Project Jupiter, its planned $165 billion AI data center in New Mexico, seeking the option to delay payments if the campus misses its expected 2028 launch rather than leave as its main tenant. The project faces local opposition, regulatory hurdles and repeated rejection of a natural-gas pipeline route, putting its power supply and schedule under pressure. Oracle says the project remains on schedule and that it is committed to New Mexico; Blue Owl says the notice does not change the project’s financial commitments. Reports of the notice pressured Oracle shares and other companies linked to the project, including Blue Owl Capital and prospective project partner Bloom Energy, as investors weighed risks to the Stargate AI infrastructure buildout. The dispute highlights tensions between AI data center expansion and the local approvals, energy and resources it requires.
