Dubai launches open-source deepfake detector with 91% accuracy
Dubai’s Electronic Security Center has introduced Saraab, an open-source deepfake-detection model it says can analyze videos as short as seven seconds and achieved up to 91% accuracy in its tests. The launch comes as synthetic media is also drawing legal and political scrutiny in the United States: attorneys for Wisconsin Democrat Rebecca Cooke demanded that Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden stop posting AI-generated videos falsely attributing statements to her. The dispute reflects broader concerns about deepfakes in election campaigns, where state rules vary and no federal standard governs their use.
