Apple Unveils $299 HomeView Smart Home Hub
Apple unveiled HomeView, its first display-equipped smart-home hub, in tabletop and wall-mounted versions for $299; preorders opened Oct. 13, and sales are scheduled to begin Nov. 13. Its 7-inch touchscreen, camera and sensors can recognize up to six people and personalize apps and widgets, while shared photos and music remain available to the household. Powered by the A18 chip, HomeView combines Siri with Apple Intelligence, FaceTime, audio playback and controls for compatible smart-home devices; Siri can use personal context from a nearby, recently unlocked Apple device, and Apple says personal information is protected. The device has no physical buttons or App Store and relies on touch, voice and a curated selection of apps. Apple is positioning HomeView against Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub as it expands its smart-home lineup with products including a refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K.
