Teen Acquitted of Homicide, Convicted of Battery
A jury found Javarius Hurd, now 18, not guilty of reckless homicide in the 2024 death of Lincoln Hills youth prison worker Corey Proulx, but convicted him of misdemeanor battery by a prisoner. Prosecutors said Hurd, then 16, assaulted a counselor and later punched Proulx during a confrontation in an outdoor area; Proulx fell, struck his head on the pavement and died. Hurd was tried in adult court, and a sentencing hearing on the battery conviction is scheduled for Oct. 30.
