Televangelist Jim Bakker Dies at 86
Televangelist Jim Bakker died Oct. 5 at age 86, and his family honored him at a memorial service at Morningside in Missouri. His wife, Lori, and other relatives remembered him as a devoted preacher, husband and father, while acknowledging the highs and lows of his life. Bakker and his first wife, Tammy Faye, built the PTL television ministry into a nationally known enterprise in the 1970s and 1980s. His career was later overshadowed by a financial-fraud conviction tied to the ministry; he served nearly five years in prison before returning to television and starting a ministry in Missouri. His family did not disclose a cause of death.
