Ten Indicted in Elderly Gold-Bar Fraud Scheme
Ten people from California, Florida and Pennsylvania have been indicted on conspiracy charges alleging they took part in a gold-bar scam targeting elderly victims. In the detailed Gainesville case, a victim was allegedly tricked by callers posing as government and corporate officials into buying and handing over $101,220 in gold, then urged to purchase more than $400,000 in gold to protect her money and obtain a new Social Security number. Gurpinder Singh was arrested during an alleged follow-up gold handoff arranged with investigators; the defendants have appeared in court and are presumed innocent. If convicted, each could face up to 20 years on each charge, and trial is scheduled for Dec. 30, 2026.
