Tennessee K-9 Dies After 36 Hours Without Water
A 2½-year-old Madison County, Tennessee, patrol dog named Bart died of heatstroke and severe dehydration after allegedly being left in an outdoor kennel without water for about 36 hours as the heat index reached roughly 101 degrees. Sheriff Julian Wiser said a veterinary necropsy confirmed the cause of death and called the incident preventable. The handler was placed on administrative leave and later resigned; the sheriff’s office has not identified the former handler. Internal and criminal investigations are underway, including the execution of search warrants, and findings are expected to be sent to the district attorney.
