Tesla Schedules October 1 Reveal for Long-Delayed Roadster

Tesla says it will reveal the long-delayed second-generation Roadster on October 1, nearly nine years after first unveiling the prototype. A “Go for launch” teaser and countdown clock appear to reference the company’s proposed SpaceX-developed cold-gas thrusters, which could enable a flying demonstration, though details about the event and production model remain unclear. The Roadster has faced repeated delays as Tesla prioritized mass-market vehicles, battery production, artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous driving. Tesla has previously promoted extreme performance targets, while reports suggest the company may show both a limited technology demonstrator and a conventional road-legal version. Even after the reveal, production could still be 12 to 18 months away, leaving reservation holders—some of whom paid substantial deposits—waiting well beyond the originally promised 2020 launch.
