Texas Husband Charged After Wife’s Distress Text

Weldon Powell has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, Brittany, who was found dead in their Quitman, Texas, home after relatives reported they had not heard from her for three days. Before she disappeared, Brittany had told her sister she was “not good” following an alleged physical altercation with her husband. According to arrest documents, Powell allegedly told his brother-in-law that Brittany was at home while he was running errands, but the brother-in-law could not find him at the stated store and got no answer at the home. Authorities say Brittany was found in the bathroom, where her body had allegedly been left under ice for several days; the allegations have not been proven in court.
