Texas Proposes Ending Children’s Autism Therapy Program
Texas health officials have proposed eliminating funding for the Children’s Autism Program in the state’s 2028–29 budget, a move that could end subsidized therapy for children with autism. The program served 583 children in 2026, while at least 1,000 others were on waiting lists; families and therapy providers warn that losing support would deepen access challenges, particularly for lower-income households unable to afford treatment themselves. The proposed cut follows a directive from state leaders to agencies to reduce spending, but it is not final and requires approval by state lawmakers.
