Threat Reports Prompt School Shelter Orders Across States

Authorities placed schools in shelter-in-place procedures in three separate threat-related incidents. At Dover Middle School in New Jersey, a threat involving a student prompted a Friday shelter-in-place; police identified the person involved and said there was no ongoing threat, and the order was lifted. In Minnesota, Cass Lake-Bena Schools sheltered students after a forwarded social media message mentioned a possible shooting at a school not directly identified as Cass Lake-Bena; investigators traced the original post out of state and referred the matter to the FBI, while the district said its schools faced no direct threat. At Mayfield High School in Ohio, a student’s alleged verbal threat led to a shelter-in-place and controlled dismissal on Wednesday; the student was arrested.
