Toddler Falls From Casino Pier Sky Ride, Investigation Underway

A 2-year-old girl fell about 10 to 12 feet from Casino Pier’s Sky Ride in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, before the chairlift-style attraction began moving, landing on an entrance platform and then in the sand. Her aunt jumped down to help, while a 3-year-old boy who remained in another chair was rescued by firefighters using a ladder after the ride was shut down. Emergency personnel evaluated the girl, her aunt and the boy and transported the girl and her aunt to a hospital as a precaution; no serious injuries or obvious pain were reported. Police said the ride showed no apparent defects or signs of a mechanical malfunction, but the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs is investigating.
