Top-15 Virginia-Arkansas clash set for D.C.

No. 9 Virginia and No. 12 Arkansas meet in Washington, D.C., in an early-season top-15 matchup that pits Virginia’s experienced, largely returning roster against an Arkansas team built around highly touted freshmen and transfers. Virginia has opened with two convincing wins, led by Thijs De Ridder and Sam Lewis, while Arkansas routed Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its lone game so far, relying on strong transition scoring. Arkansas coach John Calipari has stressed that his young team must become more physical to compete, while Virginia coach Ryan Odom has praised the Razorbacks’ talent and warned that Virginia will need to be sharp. Rebounding, turnovers and the ability to handle Virginia’s size could determine whether Arkansas can get its fast-break offense going.
