Topical isotretinoin cream offers localized acne treatment with limited body exposure
A new topical isotretinoin cream offers a localized option for people with mild to moderate acne who want to limit exposure to medication throughout the body. Earlier studies of topical isotretinoin found improvements in acne lesions, while side effects were mainly concentrated at the application site. The cream may help manage breakouts, but it does not offer the same potential for lasting clearance as oral isotretinoin, which may be considered for persistent acne that has not responded to standard treatments, when medically appropriate.
