Bridge Repairs and Terminal Demolition Advance
Crews have begun removing damaged spans of the Llewellyn Estes replacement bridge in Old Town, Maine, which collapsed during concrete pouring in August and injured three workers; work may continue into next week and cause intermittent temporary-bridge closures. Maine plans to replace the project’s composite girders with conventional steel and remove additional spans while investigating the collapse. Repairs to a cracked beam on Quebec’s Honoré-Mercier Bridge are scheduled from Saturday through early Monday, with one lane open in each direction; officials say the bridge is safe, though congestion is expected. Demolition of Shreveport’s former Greyhound terminal is set to start Monday to make way for a Catholic parish hall and visitor center, and the terminal’s historic signs have been saved.
