FAA Investigates Turbulence That Injured United Crew
United Airlines Flight 1157 from Honolulu to Los Angeles encountered brief, severe turbulence during its descent on Wednesday; the pilot said it may have been wake turbulence. The Boeing 777 landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport with 190 passengers and 10 crew members aboard. No passengers were reported injured, while four flight attendants received medical attention; at least two had neck or back injuries, and one was taken to a hospital. Passengers described a sudden drop and violent shaking, and some said an injured attendant had blood on their head and leg. The FAA is investigating the incident.
