Small trial tests whether stimulation adds benefit to pelvic exercises
A small randomized trial in healthy young women found that adding 10 Hz or 50 Hz endovaginal electrostimulation to pelvic floor exercises did not improve measured muscle activity more than exercises alone. Separately, Health New Zealand has begun a Christchurch pilot to prepare for a national registry of selected pelvic floor procedures, including mesh-related operations, with a planned rollout in 2027; officials said the pilot will not end the pause on mesh procedures for stress urinary incontinence. Pelvic organ prolapse can cause pelvic pressure or heaviness and may follow pregnancy and childbirth, aging, or other risk factors, though it can also affect women without those factors. Pelvic floor therapy is used to help women with a range of symptoms and life circumstances, and clinicians caution that treatment is not simply a matter of doing Kegels; appropriate care can support quality of life.
