Trout Stocked in Iowa, British Columbia
Trout stocking and hatchery programs are giving families opportunities to learn about fish and get outdoors. In Idaho, hatcheries let children watch trout in outdoor raceways, feed them and, at some locations, try fishing in kids’ ponds. Iowa officials restocked Ada Hayden Lake in Ames, where anglers can fish under trout regulations: a license and trout fee are required, with limits that include a five-trout daily catch for most anglers. In British Columbia, Poirier Lake near Sooke received 250 catchable-size rainbow trout as part of a recurring stocking program intended to support local fishing; hatchery staff also use releases and school programs to introduce children to fishing.
