Trump Says Canada Will Apologize to End Trade War

The U.S. trade war with Canada will end with Canada apologizing for having “treated the United States very unfairly.”
That is according to President Donald Trump who was asked about US-Canada trade relations during an Oval Office announcement Monday about the U.S. steel industry.
“They want to have a deal with us,” Trump said. “They call us all the time. The problem is, they have treated the United States very unfairly. They have been one of the worst countries in the entire world. We get along with China, we get along with people, we make good deals, but Canada has been really very difficult to deal with, actually, and they charge our farmers 400% tariffs and more. They take advantage of us. They feel entitled.”
“And, you know, 95% of the business they do, they do with United States. With us, it’s a tiny fraction of that number. It’s not a big number at all. And yet, you know, we give them military, we give them icebreakers. They want icebreakers. We work with them, we buy icebreakers,” Trump continued. “We have 11 of them right now under construction. And they want to know if they can use our icebreakers, so many things. And they feel entitled. They are not a state. There’s nothing they have that we need. We have more energy than they have. We have all the lumber you could possibly use. Everything we have, we don’t need. And they have to treat our country with respect. They have been very bad with our farmers, in particular.”
Trump’s economic adviser Peter Navarro called Canadian traders “the most difficult and arrogant” that he’s dealt with.
“They cheated on just about everything they can: lumber, aluminum, steel, dairy, down the list,” Navarro said. “And the worst part now is they are in bed with China, trying to play China against us, and they are giving away their country. They like to beat up on Donald Trump. They think politically that works. The only people hurt by that are the people of Canada.”

“And many, many people are going into Canada right now from other parts of the world,” Trump said. “And it’s not a good situation. They’re coming in totally unchecked. Totally unvetted.”
A reporter asked, “How does this end?”
“I think what’s going to happen is, over the next three or four weeks, they’re going to come to us and they’re going to say, ‘We need to get rid of all the tariffs,’ Trump said.
“We’re going to win everything. We even have Lake Ontario is now Lake America, And that’s been done, by the way. That actually just got done. They told me it was just completed. But they’re gonna come in and they’re gonna say, ‘Sir, we are sorry.’ They treated the United States very, very badly. I think a deal will be made, but it’s gotta be a fair deal,” Trump said.
