Trump-backed Mazzei projected to win Oklahoma governor’s race
Republican Mike Mazzei was projected to defeat Democratic state Rep. Cyndi Munson in Oklahoma’s governor’s race, extending Republican control of the office after Gov. Kevin Stitt’s term limit. With just over half the ballots counted, Mazzei had nearly 55% of the vote; President Trump had endorsed him, and the race was rated safe for Republicans. Mazzei campaigned on tax cuts, including eliminating income taxes and abolishing property taxes for seniors and veterans, while Munson emphasized affordability, public education and health care and warned that broad property tax cuts could strain school and local-service funding. Oklahoma is one of six states that permits straight-party voting, and Republican supporters gathered at a watch party in Oklahoma City as election results came in.
