Trump Officials Announce Minnesota Fraud Arrests
Trump administration officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and FBI Director Kash Patel, announced an intensified federal crackdown on fraud in Minnesota, which Bessent described as “ground zero.” Patel said federal agents and partners had executed 17 search warrants and arrested four people in connection with alleged health care fraud schemes; officials also promoted a whistleblower program offering up to $30,000 for tips leading to enforcement action. Bessent accused Gov. Tim Walz’s administration of allowing fraud to continue, while officials highlighted past prosecutions, recovered funds and interagency enforcement efforts. The announcement came amid a politically charged midterm campaign in which fraud has been a key Republican issue, and reporting noted that officials portrayed the crackdown as a response to Democratic leadership. Vice President JD Vance, who had been scheduled to attend, canceled his appearance without a publicly stated reason.
