Trump Plans Delek Refinery Expansion Under Defense Act
Vice President JD Vance announced that the Trump administration will use the Defense Production Act to help Delek expand its refinery in Tyler, Texas, aiming to add production of commercial and military fuel. Vance said the expansion could create hundreds of jobs, strengthen national defense and help bring down energy costs, as the administration faces pressure over high fuel prices ahead of the midterm elections. An oil-industry analyst cited in coverage cautioned that the move may not lower prices quickly: refineries are already producing near capacity, and expanding output takes time and investment. The announcement comes amid elevated fuel prices and oil-market disruption linked to the war in Iran.
