Trump’s Proposed DC Golf Course Could Cost $49 Million

National Park Service documents put the cost of turning East Potomac Park’s public golf course into an 18-hole championship venue at $20 million to $49 million. The agency plans to solicit bids in January 2027. President Trump has said he wants to break ground this month. Interior awarded nearly $400,000 to Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. for e-design services, a contract Rep. Jared Huffman disclosed in a House hearing. After visiting, Trump called the course dilapidated, worn out, and very dangerous and outdated and pledged one of the Greatest Golf Courses anywhere in the World, open to the public. He proposed the takeover in May. Contested: An Interior spokesperson told CNN the full design is not final, so cost estimate speculation over an advance notice of solicitation is premature and irresponsible, especially from a Member of Congress. Interior says recent excavators are for maintenance only. Democratic lawmakers wrote Interior Secretary Doug Burgum demanding documents by September 30. The DC Preservation League sued over White House East Wing demolition debris dumped at the park in May and the municipal course takeover. An interim report found toxic metals, PCBs, pesticides, and petroleum byproducts exceeding lab limits; more than 30,000 cubic yards of soil were moved there as of last month.
