Trump Says Taiwan Plans 30% Alaska Gas Deal
At an Oct. 13, 2026, rally in Wasilla for Sen. Dan Sullivan, President Donald Trump said Taiwan had agreed to buy 30% of the gas from the Alaska LNG pipeline for 20 years and would invest an additional $4.4 billion. “That guarantees a success,” he said, adding the sum on top of $50 billion he said South Korea had already committed. The roughly $50 billion project would move North Slope gas about 800 miles to Nikiski for export; developer Glenfarne has told the U.S. government it aims for first gas in 2029. Taiwan’s state-owned CPC reached a preliminary purchase-and-invest deal with Alaska Gasline Development Corp. last year, but Taiwan has not immediately confirmed Trump’s announcement. South Korea has said any large commitment depends on commercial viability. Trump also told reporters leaving the White House he was making the long trip because Sullivan is “very good.” Coverage is thin on the right; left-leaning reports foreground the unconfirmed terms, Seoul’s caveats, and possible China reaction.
