Tucson House Expected to Open First 24 Apartments

Tucson has completed the first renovated apartments at Tucson House, a 17-story public housing complex for adults 55 and older. The 24 apartments on the 15th floor were refurbished in about 10 months, with updated kitchens and living spaces, new heating and cooling, improved security, and features such as balconies and more storage. Residents are beginning to move in, with priority for tenants who need accessibility accommodations; rents are subsidized for low-income residents through housing vouchers. The broader renovation is expected to modernize 358 apartments and take about three years, supported in part by a $50 million federal HUD Choice Neighborhoods grant.
