Turkey-Sized Dinosaur May Be Early Fruit-Eater

Researchers have described Infernogallus jamesi, a turkey-sized dinosaur that lived alongside Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops and may have been among the earliest dinosaurs specialized for eating fruit. Analysis of five fossil specimens found a curved beak, weak bite, distinctive jaw-muscle arrangement and ridged surfaces in the palate, features that suggest it processed soft foods rather than hard seeds or fibrous plants. The team hypothesizes that it ate fleshy fruits such as peaches and cherries, though its diet is inferred from its anatomy rather than directly observed.
