Two ISP Squad Cars Struck, Trooper Injured

Two Illinois State Police squad cars were struck in separate interstate crashes within three days, and both drivers were cited for violating Scott’s Law and driving under the influence. On Oct. 8, a vehicle hit a trooper’s stationary, emergency-lit squad car in an I-55 construction zone near Springfield; the trooper was taken to a hospital as a precaution. The next day on I-70 in Edgar County, a vehicle sideswiped a squad car at an active crash scene and hit another vehicle; the trooper was uninjured. ISP said it has recorded 11 Move Over Law-related crashes in 2026, injuring two troopers, and reminded drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.
