Two Mass Shootings Strike Oregon, Arkansas

The Bend, Oregon, school shooting has prompted debate over how to prevent attacks and how they are covered. One commentary argues school attacks remain rare but criticizes gun-free-zone policies and questions media emphasis on particular types of firearms; another argues schools should have armed responders able to intervene before police arrive. A separate analysis compares the Bend shooting with a shooting in Little Rock, Arkansas, urging journalists to apply consistent standards and avoid racial speculation while examining whether suspects and victims receive equal treatment in coverage.
