Dennis Butler, 53, was sentenced to life in prison after an Alachua County jury convicted him of second-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of Steven Robinson. Prosecutors said Butler shot Robinson eight times in the yard of his Gainesville home, then fled and discarded his cellphone. Jurors also found that Butler possessed and fired the weapon that caused Robinson’s death; Butler received additional sentences for firearm and ammunition possession as a convicted felon.

Search teams are continuing efforts to find Colorado Mountain College students Kaden Matsuda, 19, and Jackson Donlon, 20, who went missing after setting out to hike Ice Mountain in Chaffee County. A snowstorm brought heavy snow to the area, and crews found their collapsed tent and some gear but have not located the hikers.
