Two Missing Colorado College Hikers Found Dead

Two Colorado Mountain College students, Kaden Matsuda, 19, and Jackson Donlon, 20, were found dead Wednesday in a basin near West Apostle Mountain after they went missing on a hike in the Sawatch Range. They had set out from the college’s Leadville campus intending to climb Ice Mountain, and college staff reported them missing after they failed to return. Search crews found their tent near Lake Ann and continued searching as heavy snow and difficult conditions affected the area. Authorities have not released a cause of death, and foul play is not suspected. The students’ deaths have deeply affected the college community, where both were freshmen drawn to outdoor pursuits.
