Two Motor Vehicle Inspectors Suspended Rampur Checkpost Bribe

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the immediate suspension of two Motor Vehicle Inspectors at Rampur checkpost in Paschim Bardhaman after allegations that they harassed a truck driver and demanded a bribe. He described a rapid transport-department crackdown following the incident, which involved the truck JH09BA3535 and a coercive ₹22,000 bribe demand for a tax already abolished by the state. Adhikari reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and said the government would take swift and decisive action against officials who abuse their power. The drivers involved reported harassment and wrongful vehicle seizure, prompting actions to ensure the release of detained vehicles and to address harassment of transporters. The Anti-Corruption Branch has also initiated a criminal inquiry into the matter, with the case referred for thorough investigation and legal action where appropriate. The government affirmed its commitment to an transparent, corruption-free administration and to disciplinary measures for any official found engaging in extortion or abuse of power.
